On October 5, 2017, more than 1,000 punk rockers descended on Portland City Hall for a once-in-a-lifetime event commemorating legendary Portland band Dead Moon on the first ever DEAD MOON NIGHT.

On that night, under a full harvest moon, Fred and Toody Cole looked on as Portland City Commissioner Chloe Eudaly officially proclaimed October 5 as Dead Moon Night, forever emblazoning city calendars with the mark of the skull and moon.

A live musical celebration of Dead Moon followed, featuring renditions of the band’s songs by many of Portland’s rock ‘n’ roll brethren including Jerry A and Charley Nims of Poison Idea, Chris Newman of Napalm Beach, Sam Henry of the Wipers, Sean Croghan of Crackerbash, Michael Hurley, Marissa Anderson, Ural Thomas and many more.

Dead Moon founder and Portland rock legend Fred Cole died November 9, 2017 in his home in Clackamas, OR
